Stained Glass Solders & Their
Uses
50/50 -- The "standard".
Can be used as multi-purpose by an experienced solderer. May require
several heat ranges of irons to handle a variety of tasks.
60/40 -- A
"lower" melting temperature than 50/50. This solder flows easily
and hardens to surprisingly smooth beads even for the beginner or those
who solder only occasionally. In addition to being a candidate for ones
"solder of choice" this is definitely a product that should be
considered for use in production work and classroom activities.
Quick Set -- a Canfield
"special 60" proprietary alloy. This solder was developed
exclusively for the stained glass production solderer as well as the
artisan. According to Canfield this solder can make a perfect bead in one
pass of the iron and the bead sets up instantly. This solder surpasses
50/50 in its ability to make an excellent bead with a silvery shine and
also surpasses 60/40 for fast set-up.
